Carpet Tile

Carpet tile is a practical and versatile option from the traditional broadloom carpets. They are a quick answer to floor covering with style! Carpet tiles are available in nearly as many designs and varieties as any form of rolled carpeting. They work great for more complex room layouts and are easily replaceable if a section becomes worn, stained or damaged over time.

Properties

FlooringCarpet tiles, also called modular tiles, are made by tufting yarn into a non-woven primary backing and laminating the structure using PVC or another thermoplastic before being cut into the standard 18 by 18-inch squares. Also due to their size, carpet tiles can be used efficiently in areas that need to be renovated and installed without interrupting your business.

Other properties that make carpet tiles a practical choice include: insulating qualities, noise reduction abilities and moisture and bacteria resistance. Technology has improved carpet tile production and today, carpet tiles are designed to handle wear and tear better than they used to, reducing edge pull and disjoint over time. In addition, carpet tiles are more environmentally friendly because of the use of recycled materials and overall less waste when covering a complex room layout.

The adhesive used on carpet tiles is releasable, so once applied, a tile can be easily removed and replaced if worn or damaged. Modular tiles are user friendly and in commercial applications, the backing systems are designed to take more “abuse” than normal.

Types

Modular tiles come in different constructions with variances in color, texture and thickness. The four main types of carpet tiles include: cut pile, level loop, multi level and cut and loop pile.

The cut pile carpet has been constructed by cutting the ends of the loops. It comes in different types, such as Plush, Saxony and Frieze. Plush has a smooth and equal texture, making it the most luxurious and predictably the most expensive.  Plush is generally used in formal applications, not for high traffic areas. Saxony has a twist in the fiber, but is also very level. It is used for medium traffic areas. Frieze is made of twisted fibers and the texture minimizes footprint marks, so it is a good choice for high traffic areas.

The level loop is a very durable carpet and also a good selection for high traffic areas. Just as the name implies, the carpet consists of loops of the same height, making it very level.

Multi level is made from different loop heights. It is a very durable texture and this style lends itself to being more creative.

Finally, the cut and loop pile is a combination of loop and cut pile fibers creating a fashionable and decorative appearance, but somewhat lacking the durability of other options.

Whether your facility is small, medium or large, carpet tiles can be a great option for your flooring, allowing you to be creative with color, patterns and borders.
